A study was conducted to determine whether concurrent administration of vaccines for reproductive diseases and an anthelmintic, given immediately prior to estrus synchronization with a progestogen, would affect subsequent estrous response and fertility in beef heifers. Two hundred ninety-five yearling crossbred beef heifers on 3 ranches in Oregon and Kansas were assigned to 1 of 2 treatments. Control heifers were vaccinated and dewormed 30 d prior to the anticipated breeding. Treated heifers received the same vaccination and deworming products 9 d prior to breeding. All heifers in both groups were treated with norgestomet (Syncro-Mate-B) for 9 d to synchronize estrus. The administered vaccine consisted of modified live virus for infectious bovine rhinotracheitis, parainfluenza and bovine viral diarrhea, with 5-way bacterin for leptospirosis and bacterin for vibriosis. Heifers were also administered ivermectin or fenbendazole for deworming. Heifers exhibiting synchronized estrus were artificially inseminated and subsequently exposed to fertile bulls. Pregnancy status was determined at a later date by palpation per rectum. Vaccination and deworming at the time of treatment with progestogen compared with immunizing and deworming 30 d prior to breeding did not impair the expression of behavioral estrus. The percentage of treated heifers conceiving to AI or natural service did not differ from that of the respective control heifers. These data suggest that vaccination, deworming and synchronization of estrus with norgestomet can be performed simultaneously without any detrimental effects upon occurrence of behavioral estrus or fertility.  相似文献

The human central CB1 and peripheral CB2 cannabinoid receptors were expressed in Escherichia coli as fusion proteins with the maltose-binding protein at their amino-termini and a hexa-histidine/Flag tag at their carboxyl-termini. Western blot analysis of the expressed proteins revealed considerable degradation of the CB1 fusion, which failed to bind either the cannabinoid agonist CP 55,940 or the CB1-specific antagonist SR 141716A. In contrast, the CB2 fusion was well-expressed and bound several cannabinoids with affinities comparable to those observed in mammalian expression systems. This work describes a dedicated software which detects and characterizes disease lesions on leaves to provide data on the number and type of lesions and the percentage of leaf area diseased (severity). The software, written in C2+, can be used with a standard computer in combination with a colour CCD camera and a frame grabber for image acquisition. The usefulness and adaptability of the software was evaluated using two foliar diseases, Alternaria blight of sunflower and oat leaf rust (Puccinia coronata f.sp. avenae), which differ in symptoms. Using image segmentation and classification techniques, the software discriminated disease symptoms from the healthy leaf area. The number and size of lesions and severity, obtained using the image processing software, were compared with those calculated using a software planimeter or visual assessment. Significant linear relationships between planimeter and the imaging software were obtained for lesion number and severity in oat leaf rust and for severity in sunflower blight. Artefacts, mistakenly classified as blight lesions by the imaging software resulted in an over-estimation of the number of lesions. Future research is aimed at improving accuracy through better illumination during image capture. A dedicated, compact and portable hardware is currently being developed for field use as a self-contained device for disease assessment.  相似文献

J. Appl.Physiol. 82(1): 111-117, 1997.Plasmaimmunoreactive atrial natriuretic peptide (irANP) and blood-to-tissueclearance of 131I-labeled ratserum albumin (CRSA) wereexamined in anesthetized rats during hypoxic ventilation(n = 5-7/group). Hypoxia (10 min) increased irANP from 211 ± 29 (room air) to 229 ± 28 (15%O2, not significant), 911 ± 205 (10% O2), and 4,374 ± 961 pg/ml (8% O2),respectively. Graded increases inCRSA were significant at 8%O2 in fat (3.6-fold), ileum(2.2-fold), abdominal muscles (2.0-fold), kidney (1.8-fold), andjejunum (1.4-fold). CRSA wasdecreased in back skin and testes; heart, brain, and lungs wereunaffected. The increases in CRSAwere related to irANP and not to arterial PO2. Circulating plasma volume wasnegatively correlated with whole bodyCRSA. Graded increases inextravascular water content (EVW) were found in the kidney, left heart,and cerebrum and were positively related toCRSA in the kidney. EVW decreased in gastrointestinal tissues; the magnitude was inversely related toCRSA. We conclude that ANP-inducedprotein extravasation contributes to plasma volume contraction duringacute hypoxia.

J. Appl.Physiol. 82(1): 102-110, 1997.Arterial oxygentensions (PaO2), atrial natriureticpeptide (ANP) concentrations, and circulating plasma volumes (PV) weremeasured in anesthetized rats ventilated with room air or 15, 10, or8% O2(n = 5-7). After 10 min ofventilation, PaO2 values were 80 ± 3, 46 ± 1, 32 ± 1, and 35 ± 1 Torrand plasma immunoreactive ANP (irANP) levels were 211 ± 29, 229 ± 28, 911 ± 205, and 4,374 ± 961 pg/ml, respectively. AtPaO2 40 Torr, irANP responses weremore closely related to inspiredO2(P = 0.014) than toPaO2 (P = 0.168). PV was 36.3 ± 0.5 µl/g in controls but 8.5 and9.9% lower (P  0.05) for10 and 8% O2, respectively.Proportional increases in hematocrit were observed in animals withreduced PV; however, plasma protein concentrations were not differentfrom control. Between 10 and 50 min of hypoxia, small increases (+40%)in irANP occurred in 15% O2;however, there was no further change in PV, hematocrit, plasma protein,or irANP levels in the lower O2groups. Urine output tended to fall during hypoxia but was notsignificantly different among groups. These findings are compatiblewith a role for ANP in mediating PV contraction during acute alveolarhypoxia.

Southern hybridization data suggest that the male sex-determining locus, Sry, is often duplicated in rodents. Here we explore DNA sequence evolution of orthologous and paralogous copies of Sry isolated from six species of African murines. PCR amplification followed by direct sequencing revealed from two to four copies of Sry per species. All copies include a long open reading frame, with a stop codon that coincides closely with the stop codon of the house mouse, Mus musculus, a species known to have a single copy of Sry. A phylogenetic analysis suggests that there are at least seven paralogous copies of Sry in this group of rodents. Putative orthologues are identical; sequence divergence among putative paralogues ranges from 1 to 8% (excluding the CAG repeat), with much lower levels of divergence in the high-mobility group (HMG-box) region than in the C-terminal region. A high proportion of nucleotide substitutions in both regions result in amino-acid replacement. The long open reading frame, conserved HMG-box, and pattern of evolution of the putative paralogues suggest that they are functional. Received: 4 October 1996 / Accepted: 17 January 1997  相似文献

Bauhinia malabarica and B. divaricata have both been reported to have dimorphic flowers; floral development of these species has been investigated and compared using SEM. B. malabarica is subdioecious, with three types of flowers: perfect, staminate, and carpellate. Individual trees usually have only one type of flower. Perfect and carpellate flowers have similar initiation of floral organs; each has five sepals, five petals, two whorls of five stamen primordia and a carpel primordium. The carpels of carpellate flowers do not differ from those of perfect flowers throughout development. Both have a gynophore or stipe and a cuplike hypanthium. Stamen development diverges markedly after mid-development: the perfect flowers have ten stamens in two whorls, the outer with longer filaments than the inner. All stamens have anthers, which are covered abaxially with abundant inflated trichomes. Carpellate flowers have a circle of short cylindrical staminodia, each bearing a few hairs, about the base of the carpel on the rim of the hypanthium. Heteromorphy in B. malabarica is effected by suppression of stamen development, even though the usual number of stamen primordia is initiated. Suppression of stamens occurs at midstage in development in carpellate flowers of B. malabarica, and is complete. In B. divaricata nine stamen primordia are released from suppression in late stage, undergo intercalary growth and form a staminodial tube around the carpel stipe. The dimorphy in B. divaricata is expressed late in bud enlargement as divergent rates of growth in the carpel in the two morphs.  相似文献

The flowers of Ceratonia siliqua, an anomalous caesalpinioid legume in the tribe Cassieae, are unusual in being unisexual and in lacking petals. Inflorescence development, organogeny, and flower development are described for this species. All flowers are originally bisexual, but one sex is suppressed during late development of functionally male and female flowers. Ceratonia siliqua is highly plastic in sexuality of individuals, inflorescence branching pattern, racemose or cymose inflorescences, bracteole presence, terminal flower presence, organ number per whorl, missing floral organs, pollen grain form, and carpel cleft orientation. Order of initiation is: five sepals in helical order, then five stamens in helical order together with the carpel. Each stamen is initiated as two alternisepalous primordia that fuse to become a continuous antesepalous ridge; in some flowers, the last one or two stamens of the five may form as individual antesepalous mounds. Petal rudiments are occasional in mature flowers. Position of organs is atypical: the median sepal is on the adaxial side in Ceratonia, rather than abaxial as in most other caesalpinioids. This feature in Ceratonia may be viewed as a link to subfamily Mimosoideae, in which this character state is constant.  相似文献

We compared the patterns of movement of sex chromosomal and autosomal loci along a 160 km transect across a zone of hybridization between M. domesticus and M. musculus in southern Germany and western Austria using seven genetic markers. These included one Y-specific DNA sequence (YB10), two X-specific loci (DXWas68 and DXWas31), and four autosomal isozyme loci (Es-10, Es-1, Mpi-1, and Np-1). Random effects logistic regression analysis enabled us to examine the relationship between M. domesticus allele frequency and geographic distance from the western edge of the hybrid zone and allowed statistical evaluation of differences in cline midpoint and width among loci. More limited movement was observed for all three sex chromosomal markers across the zone compared with three of the four autosomal markers. If differential movement reflects fitness differences of specific alleles (or alleles at closely linked loci) on a hybrid background, then alleles that move to a limited extent across a hybrid zone may contribute to hybrid breakdown between two species. The limited flow of both X- and Y-specific alleles suggest that sex chromosomes have played an important role in Mus speciation.  相似文献

The floral ontogeny of Pisum sativum shows a vertical order of succession of sepals, petals plus carpel, antesepalous stamens, and antepetalous stamens. Within each whorl, unidirectional order is followed among the organs, beginning on the abaxial side of the flower, as in most papilionoids. Unusual features include the four common primordia which precede initiation of discrete petal and antesepalous stamen primordia, and the marked overlap of organ initiations between whorls which are usually separately initiated. The stamens arise in free condition, then become diadelphous by intercalary growth at the base of nine stamens, and finally become pseudomonadelphous by surface fusion between the vexillary stamen filament and the adjacent edges of the filament tube. The early initiation of the carpel is not unique among papilionoids, but is somewhat unusual.  相似文献
